This is a new, recurring segment I want to start up so I can be better about setting goals, being held accountable by putting them out there for others to see, and assessing how those goals went and how I can modify them in the following months!
There’s just something about money that has the power to make you or wreck you, huh? Especially as a young adult – you’re just graduated, probably drowning in student debt, trying to find your footing in this professional world while trying to maintain your sanity. But that feels hard to do when more experienced adults constantly say “it never gets better.” I wouldn’t know, but I’m assuming they’re right – there are always going to be new bills, new expenses, new financial surprises as time goes.
Think about this scenario: if you’re looking for a certain solution to problem – whether that’s to lose weight, help with a skincare problem, hair problem, etc – are you more likely to listen to a paid actor on a TV commercial, or a friend who’s personally tried a product(s) + recommends it to you (and someone who genuinely cares about your concerns and want to help you find a good solution)?
The idea behind network marketing is that in this day of technology + constant communication, the word of mouth method between friends, and then their friends, and then their friends, and so on and so forth is the most effective way to market. Plus, a lot of people would probably prefer to financially support their friends by purchasing products through them instead of funneling money solely into a corporate company.
I’ll be the first to admit that when acquaintances or even complete strangers reach out to me on Facebook or Instagram, I’m guilty of rolling my eyes and curving their offers. Every time I thought, “they just want more money for themselves, they don’t honestly care about me,” and “I’m not an entrepreneur, I wouldn’t succeed in these types of businesses.”
But when close friends started getting involved with network marketing structured companies and explained the process to me, I realized that I’d be crazy to not take the opportunity. You usually pay a fee in order to “start your business,” and after that, the process can be as active or as passive as you want. However, be prepared that if you yourself are going to be very passive with the business, you can expect your income to mirror that. But if you’re passionate about the products and what the company has to offer, I promise, the distribution aspect of the job will come naturally (but the bulk of your success truly depends on how well you build your team).
This should have been one of my first posts to go up. But truthfully, this blog has gone through quite the evolution since I first started a year and a half ago. Ever since I became more disciplined about posting to The Southern Sooner over the last few months, I am frequently asked “what made you want to start a blog,” which sometimes feels like a loaded question.
