Welcome to my pride and joy, The Southern Sooner. While I was Texas born and raised, I bleed crimson and cream and will be an Oklahoma Sooner til the day I die. A little about myself: I graduated with my Bachelor’s of Science in Health & Exercise Science in May of 2017 and am currently working at The University of Oklahoma (boomer!!!!) Prior to working here, I interned at Cooper Fitness Center and briefly worked as a fitness consultant at Orangetheory Fitness. My long-term professional goal is to become a wellness coach + coordinator. I am a proud fur mama to my sweet rescue puppy Arlyn Wyatt, and I enjoy watercoloring, wine, and a good crime show.
My time as a student at OU is where my heart and passion for wellness flourished through both my studies and from navigating my own wellness journey in which I lost 20 lbs and dropped from 42% to 28% body fat. The Southern Sooner touches on a little bit of everything because I believe that wellness encompasses so much more than just forcing yourself into a gym 3 days out of the week and counting how much broccoli you’re eating. Wellness is physical, emotional, spiritual, social, cultural, intellectual, environmental, financial, and occupational. Every aspect of our lives effects our well-being – hence why I have refused to hone in on only a few aspects of it. If you want to read more about how the blog got its start, read The Heart Behind The Southern Sooner.
While I am far from having life figured out, I’m taking what little I do know from my 24 years of life and sharing it with all of you because it is my hope and desire to be that helping hand in whatever parts of life you need help figuring out. I believe that where there is joy and happiness, there is health. So take life by the reins and enjoy it!
Hi friends! My name is Kate and I am the loudest and proudest member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Class of 2017! A-WHOOP! I graduated from Texas A&M with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and I have the extreme privilege of being the graphic designer at The Southern Sooner.
I LOVE getting to be a part of this page in my own small way and helping Sam’s vision come to life. See those lil’ sparkle signatures? The header? The Pinterest pictures? That’s what I do!
Background: Sam and I went to high school together, our bond forever cemented by our Biology teaching saying “pee-nalize.” Eight years and counting, I guess you could say our relationship is pretty serious. I moved from Dallas to San Antonio shortly after graduation and now work in the wonderful world of marketing. I love a good CrossFit WOD and dream of the day I can have a dog as cute as Arlyn.
I’ve never seen Sam pour her heart and soul into something as much as The Southern Sooner, and you can see her passion for health and wellness radiate on every page. Enjoy the blog and HMU if you ever need design help too!
