GO TO A LIGHTS FESTIVAL
Christmas lights are so pretty and so much fun! A simple pleasure, but sometimes it’s the little things we need to enjoy and soak in. My boyfriend and I even went to one last night and got to enjoy spending some quality time together and getting a nice little stroll in.
Here are a few places to check out if you’re in the OKC or DFW areas!
Chickasha Festival of Lights – free admission, accepts donations (details)

BAKE + DECORATE COOKIES
It’s basically a must. I personally love making sugar cookies and using the Christmas cookie cutter shapes, but there are so many fun recipes for the Christmas season, you obviously don’t need to limit yourself to just sugar cookies (or even cookies in general!) Here are some recipes I look forward to trying out!
COOKIE BATTER CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES VIA SALLY’S BAKING ADDICTION (USING CHRISTMAS SPRINKLES)
EGGNOG COOKIES VIA COUPON CRAVINGS
PEPPERMINT BARK BROWNIES VIA LOVE & OLIVE OIL
SUGAR PLUM SHORTBREAD COOKIES VIA WICKED GOOD KITCHEN
CHRISTMAS VANILLA ROLL CAKE VIA A TREATS AFFAIR
GO ICE SKATING
Granted, this is an activity that’s generally available all year round, but it’s usually more fun during the winter, especially around Christmastime.
Devon Ice Rink – outdoor ice rink in downtown OKC; admission fee includes skate rental (details)
Edmond Outdoor Ice Rink – admission fee includes skate rental (details)
DALLAS FORT WORTH
The Galleria – admission fee + skate rental (details)
MAKE HOMEMADE HOT CHOCOLATE
While it’s significantly easier to just pour a packet of hot cocoa mix into some hot milk, homemade hot chocolates are so rich and can be so unique! Here are some recipes to try.
DECORATE A GINGERBREAD HOUSE
Do it for fun, or get together with a group of friends and make a competition out of it! It can make a fun activity for a Christmas party. Who doesn’t love a little friendly competition?
ACT(S) OF KINDNESS
Not that you need Christmas to be kind, but obviously it’s the season of giving. Whether you start a “pay it forward” chain, give gifts to teachers or your mailman, or deliver cookies to your neighbors.
WHITE ELEPHANT / DIRTY SANTA
This is not necessarily one of those activities you have a hard time crossing off a Christmas to do list – it’s pretty easy to stumble upon if you attend a Christmas party during the season. But it’s a must. It’s always funny to see what people come up with, whether it’s more serious or more funny. Here’s a brief list of some gift exchange ideas for less than $20!
CANNED KOALA (A STUFFED KOALA, DON’T WORRY)
NESSIE SOUP LADLES, PACK OF 3 (I PERSONALLY HAVE THESE AND THEY’RE SO FUNNY, CUTE, AND HANDY – IT’S A WIN, WIN, WIN ITEM)

PLAY IN THE SNOW
That is, assuming it snows. For those of you who live in regularly snowy areas, I’m sure it’s not as exciting – but for us southerners that don’t get to see snow very often, we need to take advantage of it when we can. It can be fun to go out and do all the cliche activities: building snowmen, having snowball fights, or sled (if you can find a hill anywhere in the flat south).
MAKE A DONATION
Just like an act of kindness, you don’t need Christmas to do so, but it is the time of year in which giving is laid on our hearts. You can donate monetarily, with material items – like clothes or toys – or donate your time, wherever you see fit and feel led.
